Often the strongest escalation is personal: raise the cost of failure, make it harder for the character to walk away, remove options, and force real sacrifices even in success. You think if the stakes have the fate of the world on the line in a unique way that it's acceptable? Like in my story, act 4 stakes escalate with the fate of the world on the line, but it is destruction. For my story the antagonist is pretty much using his power to try and create a reality that will be permant. And in this permant reality the mc is in total isolation so he needs to fix it
