cash doesn't necessarily mean physical banknotes, just means paying outright with liquid currency rather than via financing like a mortgage. but i totally get the confusion, used to think it meant a metal briefcase with paper money 😂😂

When I say I paid in cash that means I literally handed them cash. Or when I tell them, I will take something in cash. That means I have cash. Now I could have the same value of money in Venmo or PayPal for payment, but I don’t consider that cash.

For the entire comment section, whether you agree or disagree with me. The word cash has 2 meanings. It’s either physical paper currency, or the generalized term for the class of moneys (termed M1), which are immediately liquid. So money order, cashier’s check, etc.

Paying with cash means not paying with credit. In other words, not taking out a loan or using a credit card for the purchase. The cash can be paper dollars and cents or a check from a cash account, like a checking account.

You can't pay in physical cash until they have reviewed and accounted for where the money came from. Only then can you pull cash, but most of the time you'd just wire it.
