This is Geta, a Japanese traditional shoes. Specifically these geta style is called Ichimaiba(一枚歯)in other words, one blade. Some videos in the you tube saids that this wooden sandal is worn by samurai. But specifically I think its not. Geta used to be worn by most of Japanese people from the Edo period (around 1600~1800)from Shouwa period. (Around~1950) Before those era, geta was so expensive that few people could perchase it. However because Japan got lost and needed to get modernized, these Japanese traditional sandals got lost and changed into shoes or sneakers to make walking more practical. It is reasonable to persue the practicalness rather than culture. but I miss the Japanese old style, because they are simply cool.
