The driver, 66-year-old Marshella Chidester, was found to have a blood alcohol level of approximately 0.18. Two siblings, 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and 4-year-old Zayn Phillips, were killed, and 15 others were injured. Chidester was later convicted of two counts of second-degree murder and multiple counts of operating while intoxicated causing death or serious injury. In May 2025, she was sentenced to 25–50 years in prison.
