@the_green_bird_brigade: Berry is a 5 yo blue crowned conure who was surrendered because his family was struggling with his hormonal and aggressive behavior. Berry is a complex bird and they felt they couldn’t provide him with what he needed. Over the last 6 weeks since he arrived he has improved greatly. His previous family decided they wanted to bring him back home and continue the changes I made here and I agreed. Yesterday I found out that they changed their minds and will not be bringing Berry home. While I definitely think it’s for the best that he not go anywhere that can’t, or won’t, be everything he needs, I am heartbroken for him. I was excited at the prospect of him getting to return to his family, the only family he has ever known, a changed bird. Berry’s well-being comes first and foremost and I will make sure he finds the perfect forever home. Until then, I will love and care for him as my own because he deserves it. Doing what I do, I see people give up on birds every day and it never gets easier. The issue is rarely ever the bird. It is a lack of knowing how to properly feed, handle, and care for them, or an unwillingness to do so. Behavioral issues like Berry’s are usually the direct result of the this.
