@joe_malley: This day had everything you could want: rare sightings, exotics, gigantic schools, and never mind how many sharks I saw- so many that I stopped filming most of them out of respect for the storage on my drone. Here’s the shot by shot breakdown: 1- This was 1 of 3 Scalloped hammerheads I found. I dream about shots like this one. 2- A pack of 12(!) Dusky Sharks 3- A solo mahi mahi probably smaller than the size of my shoe. 4- The ever elusive Minke Whale. This sleek looking whale is so hard to get good video of. They are swift, spend little time at the surface, and stay down for a long time in between breaths. 5- A massive Bull Shark with 5 Cobia in its wake. I saw this cobia/bull shark relationship 4 separate times, only the other instances included a 1 to 1 ratio rather than 5:1. 6&7- Thousands of blue fish. The frames you see here are maybe 1/10th of the entire school. I tried my best to get them all into one frame and the fish looked microscopic, so here’s the best I could do to try to show scale of the school as well as enough detail to see the blues. I had a post a few years ago asking where all the bluefish were as I had gone almost an entire year only seeing small migratory schools here and there. Many people said it was part of a cycle they have where some years they spend offshore which I now believe as they are abundant right now inshore. I feel like I can see that pattern playing out over the years. Dream of a day.
