The majority of drivers simply don’t care. After years of working on Long Island roads, I’ve watched people move traffic cones, ignore roadwork signs, drive into oncoming traffic to get around closures, blow through work zones, and scream at us because “they have to get to work” while clearly marked detours are right in front of them. People forget that construction workers are just trying to do their jobs and make it home to their families too. When someone ignores a work zone, the consequences aren’t just a ticket or a few minutes saved. Someone can be killed and others seriously injured, exactly like what happened here.
