@news9kwtv: Here’s the latest look at construction on the Continental Coliseum. Work continues on Oklahoma City’s future arena as the project takes shape downtown!
Is it the jail or is it the basketball call of Sam? If it's the jail, I get it if it was for basketball. What a waste if taxpayers' money

News 9 I have a story for you. My family has a business that is downtown Oklahoma City called Iris tire shop. It has been down in that location for about almost 100 years. My grandpa bought it which was Ira and my dad ran it until he passed away of May of last year. My son Justin is running it now. Go check them out. Might be a good story.

While I can be excited about a new home for them, I really dislike how much citizens are being asked to pay compared to how much the team is putting forth. I understand the need for public money, and I recognize how much Clay and the team have contributed to the state. I also understand that public financing is part of the game. But I still think the split could be much more balanced.
Just look at what’s happening with the team who shall not be named—the team we played in the WCF. They’re also a one-team town, and I’d argue they don’t have the oil money this state has. Yet they’ve already privately funded a $500 million practice facility with mixed-use development where fans can go watch games when the team is on the road. And for their new downtown arena, they’re contributing $500 million outright, including covering cost overruns to the $1.5 billion project.
On top of that, they’re using a tourism tax to help pay for the arena, meaning much of the cost is being covered through fees on hotel stays and car rentals, so tourists visiting the area are shouldering a large portion of it.
I’m not saying we have to be like the Clippers or Warriors and have ownership pay for the entire arena. I’d actually rather see us do something closer to what they’re doing in South Texas than add a sales tax to pay for the coliseum. But I do think the franchise should be contributing substantially more than $50 million.
And that’s not even counting the other franchise giving the city of San Antonio an additional $75 million separate from its arena contribution, which the city can use however it wants.
I’m excited about the new arena and what it could mean for the team and the city. I just think if taxpayers are going to be asked to make a major investment, ownership should be willing to make a much larger investment alongside them.
