For most the nostalgia yes. I like going cause it’s one place I know rides are doable at a not smaller size. That said…even I find some Disney adults a bit much. And I’m a Star Wars fan.

I don’t know what you mean by head to toe Disney adult. And you do have to include Star Wars, Pixar and Marvel because it’s all at the parks and part of the brand now. With that being said it spans a lot of different interests because it includes all of those. Not only that you have people who love theme parks, animation, for some it might be nostalgia. We like Star Wars and Disney movies, trips to Disneyland is escapism. The park is clean, people are nice, rides are fun, fireworks, live music, good adult drinks, kids love the snacks and it’s safe. I don’t get how this is so hard for so many to understand. We might wear Mickey ears or a shirt, some wear more Disney stuff some wear less, does it matter?

I love to bring my kids, I’ve been a few times in my life I plan to wear the ears and the cute t shirts and take pics with my kids and I might shed a tear at the fireworks - is that a Disney adult? I’m not being mean or anything I wanna know what makes a person a Disney adult

Nostalgia is a big part of it, but so is reliable value. A Disney vacation is expensive. Any vacation is expensive. So, if I'm going to be spending several thousand dollars over the course of a week, the last thing I want is to be disappointed. Disney trips have never disappointed me.

I guess for me it's just reliving part of my childhood. I only go maybe once or twice a year, but when I do go, I just feel like a kid a again. I understand that my favorite character isn't real, but it still makes the kid in me happy. The way the world is going right now, it's a great escape lol!

It’s escapism and self infantilization. They don’t want to grow up and the real world is too harsh. They want their pretend nice world. And honestly- I get it.

Disney specifically for me is a fascination with attention to detail and history. Right now they are definitely not doing well. I think there is nuance. I also grew up at Disneyland going weekly with my family or just friends when I was a teen. It’s a comfortable place to be. Walk around, watch shows, ride rides in a safe and friendly environment.

My friend uses Disney as a coping skill. When life is hard and stressful she disconnects and goes to Disney. While she is there, there is nothing else except for fun and magic.

I’m autistic and Disney has been a special interest of mine since I was 9. Even as a kid, I was interested in learning about the history, the animators, voice actors, imagineers, etc. I also know that I and many other autistic people gravitate towards animation because of the exaggerated emotions and expressions that are easier to read for us. While I’ve like many of the newer movies, even someone who doesn’t could be a “Disney adult.” There are so many different things you could be into and you don’t have to be into all of them, like I’m not into Star Wars. Not everyone’s into the parks either or can feasibly go often if at all, but I love the parks bc they’re one of the only places where I’m surrounded at every direction with my special interests, and I can struggle in the “real world” engaging with things that don’t involve my special interests.

It’s the nostalgia of returning and going on the same rides and eating the snacks. It’s just magical there and all of the merchandise and the cast members are always so wonderful and the parks are so clean.

You say you grew up going to Disney , but did you take your kids to Disney. If you don’t have kids then you may not understand. IYKYK. Not trying to be mean in any way but seeing Disney through the eyes of your child kinda locks you in to being a Disney adult. There are other versions of Disney adults, this is just mine.

Walt Disney Company spans many different styles of movies. Are you talking specifically attending Disneyland or Disneyworld? I love going to Disneyland when I can. I use to work there as well. The Descendants has been a booming series of movies. So I disagree about the dissent. However after seeing some of these Disney adults I know I don’t fit into the category. I will still take photos with characters though because it’s just fun.

i am a millennial so I grew up with the classic animated Disney movies. had a favourite princess, knew the songs etc. as an adult I am digging the villains more: Hades, Ursula, Scar. so I don't understand the nostalgia. the princesses are basically trad wives giving their voices away for guys they literally just met

I'm really old! When I was 8, I saw the play, Peter Pan, with Mary Martin and immediately wanted to be Peter Pan, for about 5 minutes, then I grew up! Some of us get older, but our brains are still stuck at 8 years old.

For me, with a number of rare disabilities - it was one of the only places where accessibility was built in, and I wouldn’t have to actively think about what I was missing out on when my body pulled the plug - at least, prior to the DAS pass change. I only figured that out after talking with my grandmother at length - fellow Disney lover, who was born with a similar physical disability.

For me I grew up at Disney World. I had a very traumatic childhood due to being autistic. I grew up in a place that I had to mask and if I didn’t mask I got in trouble. One please I could go and it was okay to unmask was Disney World. I went there all the time growing up because my family worked there and no one was “correcting” my autistic joy when I was there. I sang there in my teens. It was just the only happy place for me. So now as an adult when life gets hard or something happens I find that I “elope” to Disney. It’s just my safe place. It’s a place that I can remove the mask and escape.

I’m in no way a Disney adult at all. The last time I was at a Disney theme park was in 2007. But I absolutely get the appeal for a lot of people. It’s happy, it’s fun, it’s nostalgic, it’s whimsical. I don’t think it’s hard to understand how people might want to go back to a happier time. Life is hard these days. Being an adult is exhausting. Wanting to escape into a happy, whimsical world where you can feel like a kid again makes sense to me. It’s not for me because it’s hot and crowded and expensive, which are my three least favorite things in the world, but I don’t really think it’s hard to understand why some people like it. Also, I suspect there is a lot of autism in some of these hardcore Disney adults. I’m also autistic and if there is one thing I do understand, it’s having a niche hyperfocus on things that maybe don’t make sense to everyone. Whatever the reason, I don’t think it has to make sense to anyone but the people who are enjoying it. Life is hard, let people like what they like and be happy. 🤷🏻♀️
