I resonate with you bbg, i had no social life outside school, I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere without my brother or my father, not even to grocery store below my house. I wasn’t allowed to wear anything but burqa when I step out the house. I saw my teenage years fly by whilst rest of my classmates and peers and friends lived them, my only confort was YouTube and wattpad, living lives I could never live vicariously. Then came university, I chose a 5 year dual degree program. The classes were spread out from 8 to 5, and I had fixed transport that would leave me at 8 and drop me home by 7pm, this was my time! I was able to utilize time throughout the day, hangout, dress freely etc (I would abayah and remove it in Uni and put it back on before I step into home). Oh also I was 23 when I watched a movie for the first time in theatres! The joy, I was doing everything I missed out during my teen years. I slowly started loosen rules, I started by getting a big girl job, money truly is key to freedom, once I started earning, my parents couldn’t really control me. They took a step back, and then I married loml and moved out and oh i am alive, to feel air through my hair and to wear cute clothes 🥺

My sister and I had these rules while living in Morocco and western countries under my parents roof. We grew up too shy once we became adults and our parents blamed us for this. Ironic.

That’s abuse. Tf you mean the school was only social interaction?? People are literally social beings, teenagers NEED to talk to other people for their development. When did we come to this? When it became normalized to make your child a prisoner and not let them create their own community

I'm Mexican and my teenage life was like this. No hobbies, no prom, no social events. And they would complain to my family how I never leave my ROOM. Well yeah because I'm not even allowed to go outside???

I still see the pain in how you talk and I feel it deeply , I feel all the things that you were deprived of and can’t be lived again and you’re left with the feeling of “what if I had it better” “ what if I wasn’t deprived to be me , I would’ve been greater” you still have time focus on gaining your power back and just do you. It’s best to distance yourself from them
