I’m convinced this is partially why Dems point to right wing propaganda and think they aren’t influenced by it. They are seeing it as situationally specific and as contained messaging, not as a systemic issue that infects us all. Propaganda on the left isn’t going to look the same, but it it’s connected to the same root system. Hence why they think they aren’t racists.

is this apart of the reason people point to “common sense” to defend their ideas? like for me, as a trans person, i’ve had people tell me it’s just “common sense” that i can’t be a man. or around the eugenics convo, saying it’s “common sense” that disabled people shouldn’t have kids.

I see this with people debating/debunking Christians, like when someone says things like "oh, as a Christian you're supposed to love everyone so why are you homophobic?", when you're really deep in Christianity you literally believe gay people are contagious beings that are going to be tortured for eternity and bring more with them so the more empathy you have the more you will want to convert people and stop lgbtq representation at all costs You cannot challenge their propaganda without deconstructing these fundamental beliefs of their culture and the more you insist on doing it this way the deeper in those Christians will put their head in the sand

Long story short, you have to rework the teachings of society. We live in one of yt supremacist structure, inherently built on propaganda and brainwashing. You start with yourself and assist others in theirs. Calling out singular instances of propaganda is good, but you should provide the context of where it comes from and how it impacts. If you're going to try and educate/school someone on something, i.e propaganda you witness, actually educate them. Some ppl aren't able to learn because they don't want to, but all others who are willing can.
