@thefliphut: I HATE that old orange stain on furniture 😭🍊 So when I found this coffee table at Goodwill for only $20 absolutely COVERED in it, I made it my mission to bring that wood tone back to life. Fun fact: a lot of old furniture didn’t actually start out this orange! Years of aging, UV exposure, and the original finish changing over time can leave wood with that super warm orange hue we all know 👀 I started by stripping the top, and thankfully that old finish came off like BUTTER 🧈 For all the curves and little details that are a nightmare to sand, I used acetone + steel wool to help break down the old finish. Then came sanding ✨ I kept it gentle with 220 grit on the veneered top, used a foam sanding pad to get into all those details, and because the legs were solid wood, I could be more aggressive there starting at 80 grit and working my way up. For the finish, I wanted that perfect rustic, neutral wood tone that wasn’t too light or too dark 🤎 I went with @Minwax Dark Walnut but wiped it back almost immediately so it wouldn’t get too deep. A wipe-on polyurethane sealed everything and brought out SO much richness in the wood. And THAT transformation 😮‍💨🤌 No more orange. Just a warm, timeless wood finish that seriously looks like it walked straight out of Pottery Barn. Not bad for a $20 Goodwill find 🙌 And now it’s ready for another 10+ years in its new home. 👇 Be honest: would you have saved the wood, or painted it?
