Before somebody misunderstands this: turning away from sin is good. Obedience is good. Growing in your walk with Christ is good. The problem begins when you take those things and make them part of the reason God accepts you. If “turn from your sins” is a condition for receiving eternal life, the question becomes: How many sins? Which ones? And have you stopped committing them yourself? You haven’t eliminated sin. You’ve simply decided certain sins disqualify someone while your remaining sins apparently don’t. That’s why our confidence cannot be in our reform, performance, or righteousness. Works belong in service, discipleship, and fellowship, not as a condition for receiving eternal life. Jesus didn’t say, “Improve yourself enough.” He said, “It is finished.” Trust Christ.

Mr Philip - Acts 8:29 :
True- Ephesians 2:8-9(AMP): "For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; not as a result of your works [your attempts to keep the Law], so that no one will [be able to] boast or take credit in any way [for his salvation]." 1 John 2:1-2 NIV My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world."

Wow! That was edifying! I knew all this and it brought tears the way you presented it! Definitely The Holy Spirit! Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for everything you’ve done for us and for the boldness in our brothers and sisters speaking the truth!! Just amazing! God is so good! ♥️🙏

that's why jesus gave us sacraments.the sacrament of reconciliation. he gave authority to his apostles to forgive sins for us to know whose sins are forgiven and whose sins are not.

stop assuming that people stopped sinning is to earn salvation. we already know its through faith not of works. we try to stop sinning because is the right thing to do.

Dead works refers to the Jewish stuff (circumcision, sabbaths, feasts, kosher, temple purity etc). Dead works ≠ good works. Cornelius’s good works went up as a memorial before God as do ours (reiterated in Heb 13:16). The reason their deeds were filthy in Isaiah 64:6 is bc they were sinful, idolatrous ppl and God didn’t accept their new moons, sabbaths and feasts etc bc of it. Just like he didn’t accept Cain’s offering (“if you DO RIGHT will you not be accepted?”), and why Jesus says to reconcile with your brother before offering your sacrifice. Be faithful for God shows no partiality, giving his spirit to those who obey him & accepting all who fear him and do what’s right.

I give up. Following Jesus shouldn’t be so hard to figure out. Scripture says His yoke is easy, but it doesn’t feel that way.

You over complicating it. No one can just not sin, that’s the least relevant requirement for heaven after Christ came. Follow commandments, repent, and don’t judge anyone for their sins which ironically you lowkey are. And do good works. If people could just not sin Jesus would have never had to come. He came so we could be forgiven regardless of any sin and so we could forgive others through believing in him

My understanding of the scriptures is that, and hear me out, we don’t repent “of” our sins, we repent for the remission of our sins. Repentance, that change of mind and heart, is going from unbelief in Jesus to belief. “Godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation”. I can’t find anywhere in scripture that says repent “of” your sins. We repent (change from unbelief to belief in Christ) for the remission of our sins. And then because we love Jesus we want to turn away from our sins out of love for God, but that’s after the salvation that comes through faith in Christ. We receive our salvation through faith alone, and then we begin the process of sanctification. But sanctification is not what saves us, it’s just evidence that we have been saved. The spirit of God within us convicts us to hate sin and so we sin less, but we will always struggle with it due to our flesh. Sanctification occurs from the moment of salvation until the day you die and then sanctification can be completed because you no longer have the battle between the spirit and the flesh. Sorry for rambling. Just thinking it out through typing. That’s just my understanding.

Nobody said turn from your sins to be saved! The word said believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved! Once you accept Jesus as your Lord and savior of of course, there’s a transformation also known as sanctification process once you receive the Holy Spirit !

Michael Beltran :
This is why we need the Church to guide us. You ask who decides which sins count? The answer is the Church. It’s not that only certain sins are offensive to God or wrong, but 1 John says not all sin leads to death, however some sin does. The Church, through her binding and loosing authority given in Matthew 16/18, determines which sins lead to death (mortal) and which do not. The point isn’t to trust your own good works because truly “good” works are not possible apart from God’s grace. However, it is important to stop committing mortal sins, as these sins destroy your relationship with God (ie murder, adultery, idolatry etc.). Due to the stain of original sin, we are not capable of abstaining from venial sin. Thus, the sacrifice of Jesus will cover for you. However, to commit a mortal sin is to forsake the sacrifice of Jesus through your choices, which is what Hebrews says in 10:26-27.

The blood 🩸 of Jesus Christ is our guarantee! But good work is our prayer of good conscience! And grace is there as well to help us. Your argument is heading to “ I don’t need repentance, since I can’t control all my sins” don’t try logic with God, u can’t win any argument. Only His mercy is your winning angle. And He knows, who is faking it or trying to please Him. So repent always. Like job. It’s a cry out, longing to the fullness of our redemption.
