In the churchyard at Aldbourne, Wiltshire, this is where Richard “Dick” Winters got chatting with the Barnes family while Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division were stationed in the village during WWII. I doubt that he sat on that bench. If you look at the plaque the person that it memorializes died in 1965. That bench was probably not there in 1944. Moreover Winters wrote of sitting on a bench and the Barneses sitting on an adjacent bench. There is no adjacent bench there. The benches that sat on are likely gone and this bench replaced them.
