Not proud of this but, I gave birth in 1978 & smoked in my hospital bed! A cigarette in one hand and an IV in the other. Ughhh, it’s so hard to believe this was common practice. 4 women to a room and they were all smokers. 😳

I remember in the ER nurses sticking syringes into the bed after use. Then after you were stable they would collect them all!

I was 11 in 1986 broke my leg two Dr's who were both smoking while setting my leg I was screaming it hurts they both told me with lit cigarettes in the mouth told me if I want to walk again to shut up

1981, as a 20 year old CNA we were told to visit each patient carrying a bottle of lotion, and offer back massages. Even to hairy old men. Yeah. Smoking was everywhere! Hallways, waiting rooms, break rooms, patient rooms. There was no sanitizer, and no one wore gloves. Wash your hands…

I worked with a 85 yr old nurse that did a bed change with no gloves on. Poop n all she didn’t care. I asked her why and she gave me the ‘back in my day speech’. People tried reporting her but old habits die hard so i ignored it honestly (reports went no where) She was a awesome nurse. AND came to work in the hat when it wasnt required anymore. Susan dont play. Loved her

No such thing as HIPAA. Before 1996. People would talk about patients in elevators, medical records much less secure. Hard to imagine life before HIPAA

Before I was a nurse I was an old school microbiologist and we used to MOUTH pipette! Sucking up chemicals, urine all types of things with our mouths......diabolical!!! I was living in the trenches in both my Healthcare lives 😆 🤣 😂
