My husband is self-employed and he pays his taxes quarterly. It’s so much easier and a lot more accurate. We find that he doesn’t lose receipts and if we need to go back and amend before the end of the year, we can.

I’m not an accountant but I’m the bookkeeper for our farm and all I can say is GET A GOOD ACCOUNTANT. It is so worth it and ours has been a life saver I swear.

What’s even funnier about this as an American who has filed self-employed in both the US and UK is that filing taxes in the UK is DEAD SIMPLE compared to the US, and she somehow has still managed to royally screw herself over. 🤣

Aaaaaaaanddddd this is how I learn that tax filings being due are very different in other parts of the world! Your taxes have to be filed by April 29th, at the latest for your previous year. In the US it’s April 15th. And in the UK your taxes have to be FILED BY JANUARY 31st?!?!

funny enough, in shakespearean times, the year actually began in march/April, so if you do research about ticket prices and history, you have to check because February 1682 could already be 1683 by our standards now :)

As a self employed person... We pay a company to help- but i make less then 1k since i just started and didnt have to file last year, but since I'm looking for a job this year that might change 💀

firstly, I am shocked your tax year ends in April and is due January. our year is the tax year, so jan - dec 2026, and my taxes are due in April.

Okay im only 23 and never been self employed ive never owed the govt money but...... I thought a regular year Jan-Dec was the tax year and then you have until April to get the taxes for that year done.... thats how ive been doing it everytime is that really bad?
