As a pharmacy tech It’s ridiculous and very sad to see how pharmacists and techs alike wave their morals and put aside patient care just to go along with corporate. According to the CDC (with the exception of some cases)flu vaccines should be administered September- October for optimal protection. Yet they recommend them every day cause the goal is at least one FLU vaccine per day. ( per corporate orders)

The cashier at cvs told me in front of my son I was “missing” like 4 vaccines. My son started getting anxious I was going to get sick. I told them I see my primary doctor every 6 month and I’m up to date on all my vaccines. My insurance doesn’t even cover vaccines administered outside a doctors office. They are stressing out my 10 year old for no reason

My job has us trying to push the flu vaccine now and then telling them they can come back end of December or beginning of January and get another one and they will be covered the whole year meet the quota or get less hours for techs which leaves us short staffed it sucks

CVS started doing flu vax in JULY. All of the techs including myself are so understaffed and stressed out about daily meetings to meet goals. Asking 100% of patients who come to the store. We are given packets of patient profiles to call and schedule vaccinations. I’ve seen pharmacists advise a patient to get their shot early when they pushed back even though it’s not recommended to get them until fall and they are now pressuring us to push back customers as well. It’s exhausting and unethical.

But we (pharmacy team) do get in trouble for it. I work for a corporate retail pharmacy and I’ve seen this many times. Pharmacists get called out in meetings and emails. Then pharmacy team gets in trouble. I had a district manager work at our store and he didn’t believe us when we said people say no. And it took him working with us to see people say no and that’s why we don’t get one vaccine that day. It is pushed and pushed on us.

It's all about corporate greed. Pharmacies make lots of money for vaccines. Yet these companies pay their pharmacy techs next to nothing to endure all this. We're forced to make cold calls to customers to schedule vaccines. As if we don't have enough to do per day!

They just need to report the pharmacy manager who is sending those out to the Board of Pharmacy. I would think there would be a disciplinary action for going against CDC recommendations and requiring flu shots over a month ahead of time?

I'm reading the comments here and there's a question that no one is asking. And realistically I don't see anyone being able to find out the answer unless it's through a discovery in a court case. I wonder what the contract says between the pharmacy and question and the supplier of said vaccine?

Why not just have pharmacists offer it to customers then document if they agreed or not? Less about chastising pharmacists for low administrations and more about ensuring people are aware of and educated on the option. The way they seem to be handling this seems a lot less effective
