I am kind of the same way as you. By reading slowly, but I do read fast and read the sentences again and again. I do read aloud to myself when no one is home. Hell, I even read subtitles on foreign films out loud, too.

Honestly refreshing to find someone with a similar reading pace to mine (Im slightly slower than a page a minute for nonfiction). I used to be kind of conflicted about what pace I should be going especially since reading quickly felt I felt I would barely grasp the book. I recently started a book “How to Read a Book” by Mortimer Adler (I know, kinda odd to read a book abt reading) and it seems like different paces are good for different things and a lot of the habits I had that slowed me down helped me digest the concepts in the long run. Crazy how much of a developable skill it is, it would have been nice to have gotten good at it in hs

I'm reading Mornings on Horseback by David McCullough currently. Its about Teddy Roosevelt. Its a bit of a denser book so it's slow and steady for me. I'm not too far but I still highly recommend it.

based off these i might rec: (1) a small place by jamaica kincaid, (2) the autumn of the patriarch by gabriel garcia marquez, (3) health communism by beatrice adler-bolton (nonfiction but you might find the ideas in here interesting). these are each pretty different from each other but just based off this vid alone they might hit different parts of ur taste and are pretty short!
