@tracy_tysonmd: A President making specific medical recommendations by Executive Order should concern us—regardless of how you personally feel about vaccines or President Trump. This is bigger than a vaccine debate. Medical recommendations are supposed to change when the evidence changes—through research, replication, peer review, expert evaluation, transparent debate, and ongoing safety monitoring. They are not supposed to change because an elected official prefers a different medical approach. That distinction matters. Because once we normalize presidents overriding or bypassing established scientific processes to determine how medical care should be delivered, where does that precedent end? Vaccines today. Cancer screening tomorrow? Antibiotic recommendations? Newborn care? Which medications physicians should prescribe? And perhaps the most important question: How does the United States establish scientific rigor going forward if medical standards can change with each administration rather than with the evidence? You can support President Trump and still ask that question. You can have concerns about vaccines and still ask that question. Science absolutely should be challenged. Recommendations should evolve. Medical institutions should be held accountable. But the way we challenge science is with better science.
