@sorensuorin: What is it actually like to volunteer in Ukraine during the war? While in Ukraine, I spent time volunteering with local organizations supporting civilians and soldiers. Different tasks like cutting and preparing food at a local food pantry to helping make camouflage nets for Ukrainian troops on the front are all important and require volunteers. But volunteering in Ukraine can look very different depending on where you are and what organization you’re working with. To better understand that experience, I also spoke with Josef, a Canadian volunteer who has spent years in Ukraine. His experience took him much closer to the realities of the war, including evacuating civilians and experiencing Russian artillery and missile attacks firsthand. For some volunteers, supporting Ukraine means preparing food. For others, it’s humanitarian aid, making supplies for soldiers, or working directly with people affected by the war.
