I always hated this episode idc. The whole point of Kion's lion guard was that it was the strongest because it was made out of animals who were the absolute best at what they were supposed to do. That was the very reason Simba allowed it to exist, they were just better than any team of lions that Kion could make. No lion should be beating a hippo in strength just as no lion should be beating a cheetah in speed (I know Fuli still won but it should not have been close AT ALL). The sight challenge was also bullshit because realistically a bird is obviously better for scouting an open savanna. There should be no competition. The original lion guard felt really nerfed in this episode, they had to keep coming up with stupid reasons for them losing the challenges. Not to mention Kion's lion guard should have the priority not only because they were first but also because Kion is literally the prince and it really feels like the writers forgot about it. The disrespect he got in this episode, especially from Vitani, was ridiculous.

One thing I despised about this show was how absent Simba seemed when it came to Kion. He constantly picked favorites between him and Kiara. There was absolutely no reason why this “contest” should have happened. Simba knew why Kion left the pride lands. He knew he HAD to go. So why when Kion returns, does he let Vitani and him butt heads? It should have been a no brainer. “I’m still the King of the Pride Lands. Kion is still my son, the PRINCE. He takes priority with the guard. Sorry Vitani, but he’s still the leader.” Instead he allows Vitani to take over then turns a blind eye when his son returns home.

The whole contest thing always annoyed me and how they had to nerf the og lion guard during the contest to make it seem even. They should’ve done a rematch for the strongest because Beshte was clearly doing better before he had to go to the mud, and while Anga did fail it’s still obvious a bird is better for scouting threats across an open savanna. Not to mention Vitani should’ve never thought her guard as anything more than a temporary solution, you’d think Kiara, Simba or someone would’ve told her that there already was a lion guard before she made her own and took over their lair
