My husband has a doctorate in pharmaceutical chemistry and worked on a vaccine in aquaculture for many years. He wouldn’t even tell me all of the things he learned but enough for me to never ever ever eat raw shellfish, especially mollusks, ever again, as long as I live. I was a huge raw oyster girlie all my life but what he learned on that project changed his life forever and mine too obviously. People just don’t understand how different things are in the oceans these days. It’s not like it was, even just a few years ago.

I got Hep A from eating oysters. I was so sick that I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow to throw up. I was literally sleeping with my head hanging off the bed over a trash can because I was vomiting so frequently and without warning, but I was so weak that I couldn’t function to get up. I would fall asleep from pure exhaustion and wake up with my body wracking with dry heaves because nothing was left in my stomach. It was truly one of the worst experiences of my life.

"contaminated" ...they were literally RAW! Eating raw seafood or any raw food is always a risk. That's the chance you take and he took it unfortunately

Oysters are literally the swim diaper of foods. They are filter feeders so eat mollusks raw at your own risk.
