Our #neighbors planted aggressively #invasive running #bamboo so it is quickly taking over our back yard. It has now consumed a good 1/10th of the space, making our fire pit totally inaccessible which was regularly enjoyed. The bamboo is notoriously hardy and difficult to get rid of. It’s only yards away from our home at this point, which would be extremely damaging to the foundation. I’ve seen whole buildings torn down just because of this pervasive issue. I know the solution would be to communicate with them about it, but confronting them is very uncomfortable because we think they’re probably avoiding accountability, but other than this they are long time neighbors who we like and get along with. If it were easily fixable, this could be taken care of with a quick conversation. But the reality is, this is a VERY expensive problem. I’m not sure how they could’ve made this absurd mistake considering this plant is sold covered in warning labels for this reason. As neighbors, we are all responsible for containing growth of any kind that may spread. “Property owners can be held legally liable under common law for #propertydamage and removal costs if their uncontained bamboo invades a neighbor's yard.” This is such a tough and unfortunate situation. We shouldn’t have to deal with this violation and stress at all, but here we are. Any #advice is appreciated. What would you do, considering the circumstances?
