@buildtomade: Yesterday gave me a pretty sobering reminder that back-to-school costs don’t just hit parents. My friends run a small daycare in the neighborhood I grew up in, the same daycare I was able to provide picnic tables for. Like a lot of local childcare centers, many families are dealing with rising costs. So I made a quick store run, grabbing notebooks, crayons, glue, pencils and other basics. Nothing elaborate. Nothing sponsored. Just something small that could take one expense off a working family’s plate before school starts. I also brought over a few gently used outdoor toys that needed a good home. A lot of us think about donating to schools this time of year, which is great. But small neighborhood daycares, after-school programs and childcare centers can use help too.
