as an indiana senior, I don't feel safe without my phone being on me with so many threats of violence. I don't want to have my final moments in school, and not be able to say goodbye to my loved ones. I can understand not having phones in class, but so many teachers have always had QR codes in their slides, have us use them when wifi goes out, and so many other times.

As a senior I wish admin would listen to us. I know phones can be used wrong however so many of us use our phones responsibly and like everything else they only see the bad and act apon that. 🥱

as someone who graduated 2 years ago and work with children now, I think that they should be able to have their phones free from any pouches but then should be disciplined for having them on during class. teachers can have a bin where they put them. schools are not safe enough for the children not to have their phones accessible. Just me tho 🤷♀️

As a student, I understand the bell in theory. But I don't understand why we cant use them on breaks/during lunch. Also due to school shootings and stuff like that, it is too unsafe to ban them.

As a junior, my phone is actually important. Throughout my high school years my phone has been extremely useful, both because of the work literally requiring my phone for stuff like QR codes. But I’ve had to contact my parents often for permission or they’ve needed me to inform me of what I need to do after school with my siblings.

I would obviously prefer no ban but at this point I don’t see that happening, a partial ban is what makes the most sense,if you’re caught with it during class it gets taken and you’re free to use it between classes and during lunch, maybe even study hall. Unfortunately that’s not the approach that many schools, including mine have chosen. They have placed a flat out bell to bell ban even if you’re on senior release, treating getting caught with a phone practically the same as getting caught with illegal substances.

Phones should stay in backpacks during class, teachers should be able to confiscate if using during class, but they should be allowed to use them during lunch and passing time.

I tried a ban last year but it was impossible to enforce because no one else did it. This year everyone has to have a pilicy. I make my student put their phones in a calculator case. They are assigned a number. I can see exactly what students didnt put their phone away. I like it so far. we shall see how it goes.

When I was in hs, a lot of teachers had the rule of “you can have it on the desk or person, but you can’t use it all class. If you need to use it, do so for a moment and put away or ask the teacher.” That’s always how I viewed it too, obviously there’s some students who didn’t follow that but that was sparingly before I graduated

As a student who is in multiple clubs, honors classes, and has medical issues, the phone ban isn’t reasonable because when trying to figure out activities or who’s running club rush or what’s happening for an assembly with being in student council, communicating with 30+ students is a lot easier through a phone message instead of a computer especially when the group chat is made through iMessages. Also a lot of my classes have me using my phone to upload assignments or scan QR codes anyways that it defeats the purpose of the phone ban. Then as someone with multiple medical diagnosis’s I need my Apple Watch on to record my heart rate but the Apple Watch doesn’t work unless you are in a certain range of where your phone is. As someone whose heart rate has reached 200 bpm I need my phone to record my heart rate and any other medical symptoms that I’m having. As well as being able to communicate with my parents about any issues I’m having or if a real emergency is happening and letting them know that I’m safe.

I’m a primary school teacher so the phone ban does not affect me directly. However, I do not agree with the ban. How phones are used in class should be down to teacher discretion, they can be used to aid learning with QR codes, research tasks and even listening to music when appropriate. Having a phone ban also means that they aren’t allowed to use them at break and lunch. When I got overwhelmed at lunch I used to put on my headphones and play candy crush on my phone, otherwise me and my friends were interacting, looking at memes, playing uno or even playing on our DSs, but we did it together. I see it as cruel to dictate how teachers run thier own classrooms and how students enjoy their breaks

as a high school student, i fully support cell phone bans. I 100% agree that phones are ruining and hindering the students’ ability to read, write, think, communicate, and concentrate. Removing cell phones and other distractions throughout the school day will positively impact students across the country. In my school students are allowed to carry phones on them; locker, backpack. However they are prohibited from putting them into their pocket or hand during school hours.

it takes too long to walk all the way down to the office to call your parents and inevitably takes more time than to just be able to send a quick text to them. the office can also DENY a phone call, or your teacher could deny you going to the office which is insane imo. its also better for both the child and parents sake of mine to be able to get into contact with each other immediately if needed. there are NOT enough safety precautions taken in schools for them to be fully banned. just my opinion

As a student, it doesn’t change behavior at all. If anything it makes the more difficult students worse because they are bored, and that makes them feel like they have to bother others. Of course they would still bother others if they still had phones, but it’s gotten worse

my kids high school does not allow then to have them out in class, but they are allowed at lunch. the admin said allowing them at lunch helped keep many kids from feeling the need to check during class and kept lunches much calmer.

Okay putting the phones in the wall pockets thing is not a bad idea, but only if the students will be able to get them back after they are done with an assignment or there is an emergency. Everything beyond that is just too much. I graduated school but I’m in college right now

as a hs student rn: i think a cell phone ban k-8 is reasonable. yonder pouches are always ridiculous and expensive when that money could go to places its actually needed. just keep them put away. however students 9-12 are learning how to regulate themselves. this INCLUDES LEARNING HOW TO REGULATE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR PHONE. if a student would rather be on their phone than learn, then let them see the natural consequences of this. stop coddling students over phones and let them fail classes and tests. atp in ur life, u either want to succeed or you dont and banning phones is not going to change that. they will find other ways to fail and not pag attention. a phone was enacted in my state this year and the ONLH difference ive noticed is that now the students who would be quietly on their phones are loud, disruptive, and getting in the way of other students educations. let students face the natural consequences of their choices in the same way they will in the real world and stop coddling us like we dont have brains.

I know you said students and teachers (I'm just a bus driver) but as a high school student I was traumatized by a school pew pew awareness video that had a girl hiding in the bathroom and the last thing she did before being found was texting her mom an apology and goodbye . . . I know the likelihood is low that that would happen, but it's never zero now. I just can't imagine not getting the chance to say goodbye if the school banned my phone

student here; yesterday was the first day of school. since my phone was put up (phone ban) all day, and the data blockers reached all of the school; i missed 4 calls and a text from my 11 year old sister because she couldn't find her bus before it left and needed someone to pick her up. she waited on her first day of middle school for 2 hours thinking no one was coming for her because I couldn't look at my phone.
