I’m a union carpenter I don’t like data centers I do belive they should be union when built but data centers don’t create quality jobs that create a lot of skilled labor it’s just tilt up and a huge flat slab and roof it’s good for Sparkys but they have enough work as is

Union ironworker here local. Yes it’s a job. Yes we go, why? Cuz if we don’t then we don’t have a job! The company will lay you off because if you refuse to work at the data center job, that might be the only one on the books right now. Also, yes we are mandated to go to the meetings. And yes, we have 20+ years out at USA parkway. I can retire just by going out there.

Ma’am, maybe it would be worth looking into the labor movement and understanding how the American middle class was built. Things like overtime, holidays, weekends, better wages, and safer working conditions didn’t just happen. They were fought for by generations of union organizers, Business Agents, and working people who stood up and demanded better. That’s the same reason these LIUNA representatives are there. They’re looking for job opportunities and fighting to make sure their local workforce has a fair shot at those jobs. And look at what’s happening right now with data centers. Billions of dollars are being invested in these projects, creating thousands of construction jobs across the country. These facilities are going to be built by somebody. The question is, why shouldn’t they be built by union workers? If the work is going to happen anyway, shouldn’t we be fighting to make sure the men and women doing that work earn good wages, have quality benefits, receive proper training, and go home safe to their families? That’s exactly why unions need to be at the table and why our representatives need to be out there looking for these opportunities. Come down to the South, and you’ll understand why this work is so important. Down here, we’ve seen contractors give work to subs that may have substandard safety practices, putting workers at risk and leaving them at the mercy of employers who can pay low wages, avoid overtime, and provide poor working conditions. The labor movement exists because workers deserve better. Those who came before us fought for the standards many people take for granted today. Our job is to continue that fight, organize these emerging industries, and make sure the workers building America’s future have an opportunity to benefit from it too. Someone is going to build these data centers. Someone is going to make money from them. Why shouldn’t it be union contractors and union workers building them—and working families benefiting from the investment? Sorry for the long message 😁

These data center jobs took gave me meaningful work and great pay for the first time in my life. I’m an electrician and to answer your question I think I’d like to work on desalinization plants to help with the water crisis, a new energy grid, and even these data centers. I understand the push back however I do think AI will make all our lives better. We just have to choose how we integrate it into our societies.

I'm sorry but I'm in the pipefitters union. and Iiuana has been being very ratty from a few different people I've talked to especially for snc they're not even giving people cold water out on the streets flagging while they stand out in 105° weather no shade and not letting them take their breaks. I'm sorry but as Union we are supposed to get our brakes and we're supposed to get cold Waters especially on hot days. and I've been hearing about a lot of sexual harassment towards some of the ladies out there that these foremans are messaging them and asking for nudes.... that is super ratty and you guys need to tighten up for that
