The Grumman X-29 was one of the most unconventional experimental aircraft ever built. Developed by Grumman in partnership with NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and DARPA, the aircraft was designed to explore the potential of forward-swept wings, advanced composite materials, and highly unstable aerodynamic configurations controlled by digital fly-by-wire systems. First flown on December 14, 1984, the X-29 immediately stood out thanks to its distinctive forward-swept wings and canard layout.
