I don’t think you can ever truly prepare yourself for having a baby in NICU. One minute you’re imagining those first cuddles, the next you’re not allowed to even touch your baby. It’s a feeling I hope not many people ever have to experience. We were only there for a week. I know so many families spend weeks or even months walking those same corridors, and my heart is with every single one of them. But even in just seven days, the NICU nurses changed our lives. They cared for our baby girl as if she were their own. They celebrated every step forward, comforted us through every wobble, answered the same questions over and over without ever making us feel silly, and somehow found the time to reassure us when they were caring for other tiny babies who needed them too. When I think back to that week, I don’t just remember the machines or the fear. I remember their kindness. Their calm voices. The smiles they gave us on the days we thought we couldn’t smile back. The way they made us feel like everything was going to be okay, even when we weren’t sure it would be. These hampers are such a tiny gesture compared to what they gave us. You can’t wrap up gratitude for helping care for someone’s baby, or for making the hardest week of their lives just that little bit easier. But to every NICU nurse, thank you. Thank you for loving babies that aren’t yours, for holding parents together when they’re falling apart, and for doing a job that deserves more recognition than you’ll probably ever receive. You will always hold such a special place in our hearts. 🤍 #nicu #nicubaby #nicunurses
