#onthisday One day. It took just one day to breach Hitler’s vaunted Atlantic Wall. The Nazis had advanced almost unchecked and secured what was known as Fortress Europe. There were raids, there was resistance, there was full scale fighting in Italy and on the Eastern Front – But Fortress Europe was the impenetrable status quo. The Fascists were so secure in this that when the invasion did come, they refused to accept it was happening, and then refused to accept it could succeed or even hurt them. But it did succeed. Thanks to people willing to challenge the status quo, willing to make history, with organization, determination and courage, in just one day the lie of that status quo was exposed and the wall of hubris, intolerance, hate and greed was blown open, exposing the great and fundamental incompetence of the enemy leadership. It wasn’t the end of the fight – many more sacrifices would have to be made. But that one day proved that authoritarian injustice, oppression, aggression, fear mongering, scapegoating, theft and murder can be challenged, should be challenged, must be challenged and ultimately, can be overcome. #DDay #Resist #OurHistory
