@mariaaudhd: We don't get bullied because we're gullible. We get bullied because we take people at their word — and most people don't. Neurotypical brains are built to read hidden motives. Ours are built to take things literally. So when someone smiles and says something kind, we believe it. When someone's tone doesn't match their words, we often don't catch it. That gap is exactly where bullies find their opening. #ActuallyAutistic #audhd #autism #neurodivergent #fyp
And when you catch up and say no, or don't trust people anymore.. you get bullied because you're negative or that you don't like anyone.
Neuro-typicals are exhausting.

Somebody called me naive for believing them and I said no I just expect you say what you mean and mean what you say. It's so hard to train my brain to assume everybody is lying and believe them once they prove it. It feels backwards.

I'm always taken aback when I realize that, yet again, I was gullible, or naive, or trusting the wrong person or interaction. Again.

They think there is something behind everything we say and there usually isn't.

when I was little, I didn't understand sarcasm at all and I ended up getting bullied because of this.

"Say what you mean, and mean what you say." People get mad at me for not veiling my thoughts, or for asking questions when there are obvious gaps in their story. I thought we were having a conversation, not putting together a 5,000 piece puzzle.

The first time someone called me names as a kid - real names. Bullying - it was a former friend that I lit up at the sight of him. And he instantly attacked me to save face so no one would know we’d been friends the previous year. It scarred me. Destroyed my trust in people permanently. I’ve tried to prepare my babies for that sh*t before they EVER encounter it.
