5 things I’ve learned from hitchhiking into 15 private golf courses in Utah: • 1. “It works.” What you don’t know is that I tried this multiple times last year and never got picked up. I stayed persistent and knew it had to work! • 2. “Staff members contribute to, but don’t always reflect the club experience.” Yes, I’ve had some tough encounters with staff members of these clubs… but that’s their job. I get it. I’m showing up unannounced and standing outside a private property begging for access. There will be plenty more tough interactions but I don’t think that fully represents the club properly. • 3. “I’m hitchhiking into valuable relationships.” What I thought would be an experiment to play exclusive golf courses has turned into me creating lifelong friends and connections. 4 hours in a golf cart with each other can turn you from a stranger to a dear friend. • 4. “Members want to beat me, I want access to the club. It’s a win-win.” People get so amped on the money aspect and the pride of winning… and if that’s the reason you’re picking me up, I love it!! I’m wanting to play a new course that I don’t have access to so take my money (I won’t go down without a fight). • 5. “Embrace rejection kindly. I might see them on the driving range.” What more do I say here! I’ve been successfully picked up 15x and rejected by hundreds, if not thousands. Keep a smile and see how they react when I’m on the course!
