i’m not even surprised. some ppl like to use shelters as a first class ticket to obtaining ur own housing. shelters are for people that genuinely have no where else safe to get. even then shelters aren’t even always safe themselves smh.

I did the shelter YEARS ago .. to this very day there’s people who don’t know that. That’s been the process for it tho it’s always been that way.

I work in the shelter too and it’s not so easy but it’s not hard either don’t scared them ppl away … they was in the shelter for 13 years by choice

I actively still work for dhs. Essentially they just need to actually verify you’re actually homeless! Out of state or not you will be accepted in a shelter it’s if your eligible is where you’ll find problems, there super strict due to multiple years of people abusing the system. For people in NYC go NYCHA, the modern apartments are fit to capacity smaller/ newer families.

They’ve been doing this for years & why my mom was not eligible when i was a kid! They was coming to people houses to see if it’s enough room & if they seen any little space they said you can stay . You would literally have to slam the door in their face and say they can’t stay here.

What no one talks about is the fact that the apartments are becoming harder to obtain bc many who exit the shelter are causing major damages to the apartments, which leaves many landlords not wanting to rent or accept the vouchers. And it makes it hard for the ppl who want to exit the shelters.
