I have 2 red eared sliders and a yellow belly in a pond and In tanks I have 2 red eared sliders in one and a musk in another. I know how fast the water can get dirty however with proper care and set up it should NEVER be that bad. That is waste build up (left over food and poop) you can literally see it floating around

He is sitting in sewage water, in natural ecosystems there are things that eat up ammonia and nitrates out of the water, consider maybe just adding foliage so he feels hidden and maybe some leaf litter or drift wood for tannins to make the water naturally a little cloudy
