I study psychosis and find it interesting that one study found people in the USA experienced more violent voices while people in India and Ghana described more friendly / relational voices. Culture can shape how psychosis is experienced.

I experienced psychosis for around a 24-48hr period. Most people truly don't understand even a fraction of how terrifyingly real and disorienting it is. There is nothing worse than losing your own mind.

I have BPD and have had psychotic features for most of my life. It doesn’t scare me too bad but occasionally if I’m really stressed I’ll hear voices that are talking to me and saying really horrible things that makes it unable to sleep, eat, enjoy my life or connect with people. It’s very very difficult to explain but just know there is NOTHING worse than losing control of your own mind

I had psychotic breaks from coping with severe abuse with spiritual bypassing and was completely sober 😔.. had 3 of them from 2022-2025 until I went to a DV shelter that saved my life. Now we are free from our abusers and finally healing and I’ve not had a psychotic break in almost 1 1/2 years. ❤️🩹

It’s literally a symptom/specifier! I’m not sure why people think they can be diagnosed with “psychosis” as if it’s always a standalone disorder lol. You can be diagnosed with something like bipolar disorder with psychotic features or major depressive disorder with psychotic features. Psychotic symptoms can occur in several different conditions!

Delusions can be smaller too. Like believing a neighbour is out to get you. That someone you had a mild disagreement with is conspiring to harm you etc
