@millennialrx: A doctor writing a prescription does NOT automatically mean a pharmacist has to fill it. But chronic pain patients also deserve to be treated with respect. Here’s what pharmacists are actually responsible for when dispensing opioid pain medications. 💊 #Pharmacist #ChronicPain #PainManagement #opioids #Pharmacy
My pharmacist called the doctor because they wrote a prescription for triple the maximum dose and the nurse said “Oh my god yes that was a mistake i’ll resend it” had the pharmacist released that they would be at fault….

Wait CVs and Walgreens have their own rules that they claim it's the DEA. I have been on a controlled substance for 15 years I can go to my local mom and pop pharmacy every 28 days and pick up my script no red flags no insurance issue if I go to CVs or Walgreens they will not fill until day 30 and they claim it's a DEA thing. If that was the case why doesn't the mom and pop shop get the same warning?

As a pain management RN, when the pharmacist calls me with concerns I always say “you’re the pharmacist, you have to protect your license, too…” 🤷🏻♀️it’s the Wild West out here.

I’m so confused on why people are mad at the Pharmacist and not the insurance companies. Also just because your provider writes a script doesn’t mean the insurance will cover it and the Pharmacist will be blamed.

OK, but why do so many people seem to think that a pharmacist works for their doctor? Like it should be common sense that they don’t. Your doctor does not get to tell pharmacist what to do.

You shouldn’t run out early if you take your medication as prescribed and if your doctor tells you to change the dosage, then he needs to send a new prescription and like that common sense their rules and regulations on pain medication for a reason otherwise you could buy it over-the-counter

I use the same pharmacy every time, and I’m only allowed to refill every 30 days. If you run out, you took more than you should have.

To be fair, there are pain management doctors who specialise in very specific and narrow areas of pain management that a pharmacist wouldn’t be expert in. When does a pharmacist get to override the professional opinion of someone with this kind of extremely specific expertise?

Ok. The main issue here we are responsible for your safety when we give you medications. Your PCP will not lose their license over that script but we will. And we always fill a script unless something is very wrong. It is not about you or your doctor, it is when we see an isssue with your RX.

I’ve been a chronic pain patient for 20 years and have never had one bad experience with my Pharmacist. And I have had to use various Pharmacies over the years due to moving in my area. ( only one Pharmacy at a time) It’s definitely the government regulations and insurance companies that have made things much worse. The ONLY time my Pharmacy hasn’t been able to fill my medications is when they were out of stock. Then they tried to brainstorm and see if there was a different dosage that I could double up on. Or, they filled my prescription with the amount they had, then I just got a nee RX sent over by my Dr for the remainder. They are always kind and helpful, just as I treat them and all the techs well. They are part of my care team. Something tells me in this story where are had to wait 5 days, she likely was getting her rx filled a day or two early every month and then all those days get counted going forward where you should have extra by the time you are asking for that fill. Otherwise, they have been taking more than prescribed which is an absolute no go. So I just wanted to show that not everyone has bad experiences with their Pharmacy. 💕

Yeah but the problem is, why is it a red flag that I get my medicine 3 days maybe 2 days early? I can’t control when my doctor sees me nor can I control when they send them in

When it comes to narcotics pharmacists have to be stringent 😂 it is not bullying 😂 and no their job is not to just “fill” them
