Curious why you would say one in seven for PPD but 2 in one thousand - wouldn’t that be 1 in 500? Language and the way we describe data is so important.

Personally, I think he should've been sanctioned for touching the witness, grabbing papers out of her hands and being physically in her personal space. Inexcusable, harassing and highly unprofessional.

I think when he was alluding to when mentioning postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis together, was the fact that if ineffectively treated, postpartum depression over a long period can turn into postpartum psychosis. That’s likely what he’s trying to get to.

I think she has undiagnosed bipolar which would make sense why the ssri meds had the effects on her they did.

No he isn’t. He’s saying that these medications, in order to work properly and SAFELY, have ti be administered very carefully. And it WASNT!

I don't feel like he was stigmatizing the medication, I felt like he was taking it seriously that this medication can cause side effects and they should be taken seriously and this type of medication list needed to be monitored for her in a better way because look at what has happened when she was able to see other doctors who gave her different medications, she's just the patient who needs help. she's trusting these people to know what these medications do and what they do even if taken together. the psychiatrist should've been aware of how these thing interact and should've done more to take her situation seriously....like take better notes.

Gosh I felt so sorry for the poor thing, she looks like she hasn’t slept in a month! I hope she had a good cry in the car and feels better now it’s over, I’d be saying to my lawyer settle anything else, no way I’m doing that again 😅

I get he’s trying to defend her by throwing doubt about the medication (and there were a lot she was prescribed )and I know ssri’s can have many side effects including suicide and harm but it’s so dangerous throwing these scare tactics towards vulnerable people who need this kind of medication—my kid would be dead if she hadn’t gone on fluoxetine and quetiapine (2 of the meds Lindsay was prescribed).

I didn't get that feeling at all. IMO he was saying she wasn't assessed or treated properly

Today was my first day watching the trial live. (I’ve kept up loosely through socials). I was very uncomfortable with how the defense was communicating, and was honestly surprised he got away with it. I keep seeing everyone praising him, but I felt the complete opposite. Totally left a sour taste in my mouth.

I too was uncomfortable with some of his demeanor, tone, questions, assumptions, and back and forth today. I had terrible pp anxiety and he really didn’t do women in similar positions any favors.

Totally disagree on this one. As a Brit it is SHOCKING the pharmaceutical /medical negligence on display. We don’t have the same culture of reliance on dr*gs so it’s a different perspective but I think it should be stigmatised. She was not experienced, she didn’t have all the info but was very keen to keep prescribing with wild abandon

The way I interpreted the cross examination is that Dr. Tuff did not properly examine the seriousness of her symptoms and did not consult with other pertinent persons of significance regardless of what Lindsay displays to her. The way I see it, all the medical professionals she was in contact with during the time of her distress, should have been in contact with each other in some form or another with medical information pertaining to her medical profile. Medical professionals should not be making medical decisions solely based on what Lindsey's perspective.

I have to disagree you cant be giving theses medications out like sweets, they can and do cause serious/horrible side affects and at some point she should have realised she was missing something and to change her opinion and explore other diagnosis

I appreciate this analysis because everyone is fawning over this attorney and no doubt he’s doing he’s job but at what cost to the rest of the mothers out there?

As a mental health professional who also works in the criminal defense space, I had many feelings, one being unsurprised but not necessarily in a bad way. His entire defense stands on the legs of medication being harmful (when there’s incompetence on the part of the clinician) and leaning into stigmas to get NGRI. So realistically I knew he would play it this way. However, it is uncomfortable to hear everything we as mental health professionals try to dismantle in society. It’s a really difficult line to tow here.

He did make a good point though it was crazy to me how the psychiatrist could not communicate with any other agency that she was seeing. To me that’s crazy. I think he really brought that out into the light how the psychiatrists who are taking care of and giving medication to these patients, they have to look into what other hospitals they’re going to and what care they’re receiving in other hospitals so they’re not duplicating medications or they’re not missing some diagnosis. I think he did make a good point that the psychiatrist did not have a full hands on hold of her patient. And drink 2020 I don’t know how many patients she was seeing, but it really brought into the lighthouse almost dangerous. It is for these patients to be out there and under diagnosed and probably overmedicated.

So many truths here. I denied my dx Bipolar 2 for 20 years. I miss the frequent hypomania but have more insight now and take mood stabilisers. This defence is so much smoke and mirrors around meds. He also interchanges psychiatrists and psychologists despite the fact that only psychiatrists can diagnose and prescribe.

I hate it for both sides. It’s unfair she had an inexperienced psychiatrist. With that being said. You’re lucky to get in and seen when you can. This dr was trying. Drs are still people. I think she did her best with the knowledge she was given. It doesn’t excuse her lack of care or what happened to her babies but I think this dr really thought she was doing her best within her knowledge and guidelines to help me

Not just the medications but the diagnosis, or lack of. The woman was experiencing symptoms after her second child and one of the best hospitals in the country can’t agree on a dx. Think about how crazy that is!
