@all.things.glp: GLP-1 and GIP made simple š¤ One of the biggest sources of confusion when people start researching these medications is understanding why they arenāt all the same. Hereās the easiest way Iāve found to think about it: š§ GLP-1 = your āappetite traffic controllerā It helps reduce appetite and food noise, helps you feel satisfied with less food, and slows gastric emptying so you can feel fuller longer. š§¹ GIP = your āmetabolic cleanup crewā It helps your body respond to the nutrients you eat, supports your insulin response when glucose rises, and helps your body process and use glucose from carbohydrates for energy. And this is where the medications differ: š Ozempic and Wegovy = semaglutide ā targets GLP-1 š Mounjaro and Zepbound = tirzepatide ā targets BOTH GLP-1 + GIP Same active medication within each pair, but different FDA-approved indications and dosing depending on the brand. GLP-1 and GIP have two very different jobsāand tirzepatide targets both. This is a simplified explanation of some pretty complicated biology, but understanding these two pathways can make it much easier to understand why semaglutide and tirzepatide arenāt the same medication. #GLP1 #GLP1Journey #GLP1Education #Glp1community #weightloss
