I think Shadow knew Jackie was sick. After 7/4 she was gone from the nest for 8 days. Came back on the 7/12 for one day, left and didn’t return. He knew. Her absence let him know as it does now. We think raptors grieve like we do. They were bonded but come December he will probably take another mate because it’s their instinct to do so. I just hope he stays in BBV and doesn’t fly far away to find a mate. KD1 maybe be old enough by December/ January to attract Shadow. He’s not showing any interest in her right now but when his hormones kick in he may choose her and stay in BBV.

Idk what would have been more distressing though. Not seeing her again and thinking she is gone or finding her remains somewhere after another predator got to her (which 100% would have happened had she stayed grounded)
