I agree 100% with that mentality. I found myself a young widow with an infant. Because I made my own money, I survived and rose up. Different circumstances, but reality. Wise words.

I did this! I tell mine the same thing. I had nothing because I quit my job to raise kids. And he had control of all the money. I went back to work and busted my tail to get out and everyday I see my kids happy tells me I made the right choice.

I did exactly this with my girls, divorced when they were young but as they grew up taught them to be able to provide for themselves first. They are thriving in life and had great careers before marriage.
