Ever since I got comfortable saying "I don't know", it has been easier for me personally.

My family or especially my father who would get irritated when I don’t know how to do something. What makes it worse is that I have a learning disability ://

its almost like other people aren't online all the time, or have every social media to keep up with these things. Like no I never had Twitter so I didn't know that xyz, who is only famous online, said something controversial in 2014.

Guilt and shame are huge drivers in our society. Being ashamed of ourselves and guilting others. my personal shame and guilt are grounded in my Christian upbringing.

I saw someone ask who Tim Curry was and instead of anyone just telling them, everyone who replied to them just told them they were a pos for not googling it. I think we need to bring back the concept of conversations

You shouldn't immediately assume this about anyone. At the same time, you shouldn't dismiss this as a possibility.

I’d honestly love to hear your thoughts on what’s going on with the VRChat trolling community. I know it’s not something you usually talk about, but I feel like it ties into a much bigger conversation about how our attitudes toward bullying and harassment have shifted and, honestly, how badly they’ve shifted.

5 seconds in and already love. this is why living life in an epistemological view point allows you to know that you dont know what you dont know and even might not know what you DO know. people who live life as an 'intellectual fact checker' essentially, more often than not confirm their own biases in the first place regarding education when tryjng to 'correct' others anyways. so us as individuals understanding that general knowledge is truly just a concept outside of ethicality, would allow us to consume information instead of using it to confirm already conceived biases. Dont ever feel ashamed, just acknowledge you might not know what you know and you dont know what you dont!!! just educate yourself for fun or importance, not because you want to prove somebody wrong/yourself right 💙💙💙 (amazing post btw, i love your videos)

i’m more scared to ask, because depending on what it is, people assume you’re being rude or intentionally ignorant by asking or because of how you phrase it. like, just let me ask a genuine question pls 💔

there is also something that annoys me these days. people who hand out insults thinking we get offended. no, we don't get offended by words anymore. that's stupid

I'm very guilty of this and have been working on stopping it. The knee jerk reaction to call someone dumb for not knowing stuff they really have no reason to know is tough to break.

there is so much hostility within the leftist community when it comes to new commies. genuinely makes me feel so defeated when i ask a question and i’m immediately meant with ridicule even though left wing ideologies are all about educating the working class

intellectualism is all about admitting your wrong, curiosity, and asking questions. The truly anti-intellectual people are the ones who refuse to try and make others intellectual.

I believe that a lot of this public shaming of a lack of knowledge on a subject is not out of a belief that somebody is anti intellectual or stupid, but rather a belief that a larger audience who sees the lack of knowledge will perceive the offender as stupid or anti intellectual. It’s like a situation where somebody sees a trait in somebody else that they both consider embarrassing and recognize in themselves. Despite understanding that they share this quality, they will preemptively shame whoever they perceive it in (in an online setting).
