Thorfinn grew up in a world and culture that praised fighting above all else. His father disagreed, but kids tend to butt heads with their parents when they stop them from doing “cool” things. Thorfinn was then 6 YEARS OLD when his dad died in front of him. That mentally changes a person. He then spends 12 years (and notably, his pubescent, hormonal years) depressed and angry. I won’t say killing people is right, but there were actual reasons for it, and things that somewhat excuse his behaviour. He never takes those reasons and still does everything he can to repent even so. Not the case for rudeus, as being a pdf never has any excuse.

What they fail understand is when it comes to Thorfinn the author uses his character to portray that Revenge doesn't heal suffering it just gives you a purpose and when you finally achieve that purpose you realise that you're still broken and that's a lesson many people struggle to realise in life(basically saying and admitting murder and killing is wrong and not ok)but when it comes to Redues what the author portray is that you can be a PDF you can sexually assault women you can groom underaged kids and they can get away,with no purnishment,and you will be rewarded.

The problem people have is the story doesn’t frame Rudeus’ bad qualities as bad and doesn’t give him consequences for it. So he doesn’t feel the need to change. Thorfinn’s decade of slaughtering is presented as bad and something that Thorfinn regrets. His journey for vengeance leads to consequences and he strives for change.

I wish I could watch this Anime but I honestly cant, I tried to power through it but I dropped it the moment it showed us his past life and how he basically took the bad way out. I hear its a great anime but I refuse to watch an anime like that and I dont care what anyone else says. maybe im overthinking but is it bad if I refuse to watch this anime because of that ONE quality is has no matter how good the other qualities are?
