When those waves hit bone, tissue, or fluid, they bounce back as echoes. The machine times each echo and measures its strength, then stitches thousands of them together into a live image — updating in real time as baby moves. Doppler mode goes even further, picking up shifts in the reflected waves caused by moving blood cells, so doctors can watch blood flow too.
