It was around 11:40 PM. I was upstairs in my room when my phone started ringing. The caller ID said: HOME I thought it was weird because I was already home. I answered. Nobody spoke. She was looking directly at me. I said, “Mom?” She didn’t move. Then my phone buzzed. A text from my mom. “I’m at the grocery store. I’ll be home in 20 minutes.” I looked back at the stairs. My mom was still standing there. But she wasn’t moving anymore. I ran back into my room and locked the door. The thing downstairs started walking up the stairs. Slowly. One step at a time. Then it stopped outside my bedroom. I could see its shadow underneath the door. I didn’t breathe. Then my phone rang again. HOME I answered without saying anything. The voice whispered: “Whatever happens, don’t open the door.” I whispered back: “Who are you?” The voice said: “I’m the one who called you.” I asked: “Then who’s outside my door?” The voice went silent. Then it said: “That’s what I’m trying to figure out.” The shadow outside my door suddenly disappeared. I waited. Nothing. Then someone knocked. Three times. I didn’t move. My mom called me. This time, it was actually her. She said she was almost home. I told her what happened. She told me to stay in my room until she got there. Five minutes later, I heard the front door open. My mom yelled my name. I ran downstairs. She was standing in the kitchen. I hugged her. Then I noticed something. She was holding her phone. I asked her why. She looked confused.
