@fernegrovehouse: This little room under the stairs may once have been the butler's pantry. We're bringing it back to life as our family laundry room, while keeping as much of its original character as we can. The Victorian cupboards are definitely staying... but we'd love to know what you think they would have originally been used for, or what this room was! #derelicthouse #abandonedhouse | country house | hidden house | Victorian mansion #Cotswolds | English home | hidden gardens | #renovationproject | period property | demolition | coach house | restoration | #DIY | Gothic | butlers pantry | laundry room
Are there any blueprints in the basement or attic? In the states we sometimes can find an abstract that has building plans. I live in a 120 yr old home and went to the abstract company and found the abstract with a few drawings of my home. I know you home is much older, but the would be a great find

I would use the cupboards for the obvious laundry products, stain remover, fabric softener etc. the second cupboard I would use for candles, matches, diffusers, guest soaps, or cleaning products. You could replace the wood chip shelf with a fold down table maybe from a reclamation yard to fold laundry on? You could also put concealed lighting in them both 🥰 Xx

Along with standard laundry stuff you could also store things like a first aid kit, spare work/garden gloves, respirator/face masks, a basic cleaning kit in a bucket for easy carrying, various types of masking/electrical/plumbing tapes, a basic tool kit, some cheap rain ponchos or even a tarp/painters sheets. That way it is like a mini hub for that area of the house and yard for quick access to things you might need to access quickly.

Use the cupboard for clean bedding, towels and more to store there instead of in bed- and bathrooms too much?

A clothes line on a pulley system from the high ceiling near the window would be great for a drying alternative

I would use the left aid cupboard for cleaning products, and the right hand side do a fold down ironing board or an accordion folding airer for woolens and delicate items :) they are lovely

You should repaint the cupboard and store different clothing spray aka to wash it out and just any other cleaning supplies so youll have more space in the kitchen since that’s where it’s all usually stored

I would try and fit a drop down ironing board tucked away inside one of those cupboards and in the other I would use for storing laundry soap, stain remover, ironing starch, iron etc.
