Ending Spoilers ahead — this is from The Kid's Dinner (Kodomo Shokudo), the Japanese movie in the clip. The older sister Michiru and younger sister Hikaru are left abandoned by their father after he disappears, leaving them homeless and living out of their car. The boys who find them try to help by bringing them food from their family's restaurant, but the situation gets worse when homeless teens destroy their only remaining shelter. Just when it looks like the sisters might finally get help, their estranged mother suddenly reappears. She never apologizes for abandoning them, only blames everyone else for her problems, and insists on taking the girls away to disappear again. The boys try to stop her, but Michiru feels she has no choice but to go with her mother — the only family she feels she's allowed to stay with. The final moment that sticks with most people: before they leave, the oldest boy hands Michiru an onigiri (rice ball) as a reminder someone cared about them. The last shot shows the sisters being driven away into the sunset, with no clear answer if they'll ever get the safety they deserve. The movie ends intentionally open, highlighting how complicated and unfair child neglect and family bonds can be.

“Why didn’t they just call the police?” Guys, this is JAPANESE POLICE we’re talking about. Japan isn’t all that sunshine and rainbow, polices there can do nothing about this situation, even refuse to help in some cases.
