Prayer is the pillar of the religion and an obligation on every Muslim man and woman. As for the correct way to pray: The correct prayer starts with purification (wudu), covering the awrah, facing the qiblah, then intention and the opening takbir, reciting Al-Fatiha and whatever is easy in every rak‘ah, with bowing and prostration calmly (standing up straight), the first Tashahhud after two rak‘ahs and the final Tashahhud, then saying salam to the right and to the left. One must adhere to the pillars of prayer, such as standing in obligatory prayer, bowing and prostrating on the seven body parts. Detailed steps of the prayer: Preparation: facing the qiblah, intention in the heart without saying it out loud. Opening takbir: raising the hands to the level of the shoulders or ears and saying “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest). Standing and recitation: placing the right hand over the left hand on the chest, opening supplication (e.g., “Subhana Rabbiyal-‘Azim” – Glory be to my Lord the Most Great…)), reciting Al-Fatiha and a short surah in the first two rak‘ahs, bowing, takbir, and bending the back, placing the hands on the knees, and saying “Subhana Rabbiyal-‘Azim” (3) times. Rising from bowing: standing up straight and saying “Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah” (Allah hears those who praise Him), then “Rabbana wa laka al-hamd” (Our Lord, to You is all praise). Prostration: takbir, prostrating on the seven body parts (forehead with nose, both palms, both knees, and the toes), and saying “Subhana Rabbiyal-A‘la” (Glory be to my Lord the Most High) (3) times. Sitting between the two prostrations: rising from prostration, sitting calmly and saying “Rabbighfir li” (My Lord, forgive me). Then a second prostration like the first. Tashahhud after every two rak‘ahs: one sits for the Tashahhud (“At-tahiyyatu lillah…”). Tashahhud: turning to the right and saying “As-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah” (Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you), then to the left. Important notes: Tranquility (sukoon) is the main pillar, meaning not rushing and being moderate in every movement (bowing, prostrating, standing, sitting). Number of rak‘ahs: Fajr (2), Dhuhr, ‘Asr, and ‘Isha (4), Maghrib (3). Final Tashahhud: in it, the full Tashahhud is recited along with the Ibrahimic supplication (“Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad…”), and it is recommended to make du‘a after it.
