@sacredchad: Baptized into the Catholic faith around the age of 12 alongside his father, Ukon initially lived according to the warrior code. After being gravely wounded in a duel in which he killed another man, he began reflecting deeply on death, eternity, and the state of his soul. From then on, his faith became central to his life. Ukon later rose to become a powerful daimyo, commanding castles and armies and even marching into battle under the Cross. But when Toyotomi Hideyoshi banned Christianity, Ukon faced a choice. Many abandoned the faith to preserve their position. Ukon refused. He gave up his lands, title, wealth, and power rather than deny Jesus Christ. Eventually, he and other Christians were exiled to the Philippines. Weakened by years of hardship, Ukon died in Manila in 1615, only about 40 days after arriving. The Catholic Church later honored him as a martyr, and he was beatified in 2017. His greatest victory was not won with the sword, but with the Cross. #jesus #christianity #catholic #History #samurai

Incredible. He was a JApanese Nobleman and gave up titles and lands…. Absolutely incredible. I wonder…Why does the Catholic Church never speaks of this.
