Ooh wait lemme give you some tips, the most confusing letters are often these (Zh/Ch/Sh/Z/C/S): [Zh = J in the word Just], [Ch = Same as English], [Sh = Same as English], [ Z = Ds in the word lids/pads], [C = Ts in the words cats/rats], [S = Same as English]

as someone that’s chinese i really recommend learning pinyin as it helps so much with pronouncing different words also maybe try listen to native speakers or Chinese shows and put of english subtitles as it will help with pronounciation a really good chinese movie that you will be able to get english subtitles on is ne zha hope this helps x

As a person who’s learned a few languages the best way is to watch kids shows I got the method off a friend when I was learning Portuguese but he had it for Japanese it kinda works in any language because kids shows are giving you the simple version of the language and it’s how everyone grows up learning their first language. oh and listen to lots of music in Chinese on top of that hopes this helps goodluck 🙏🏻

It’s expensive enough but I used Fluenz to learn Italian and I was at an CEFR A2 level in about 6 months. it definitely works if you’re prepared to invest the time with it. They also do Mandarin. As far as I remember they only do 3 levels for Mandarin which will take you to about A1. Doesn’t sound like much but it will be more than you think. I knew more Italian than I did Irish by the time I’d finished level 3.

Follow the HSK syllabus, especially if you want to start with a good foundations of words and phrases, also gives a good structure. On top of that use hsk storytimes on YouTube . It is really good for aural and comprehensions skills. If you need any other random words or tips feel free to message me and I’ll try think of some that I learned over there

The app Pleco- with the logo on the picture linked is great! If you learn Pinyin it is a lot easier but this is good for characters! If you need to type then the apple keyboard automatically shows the character. However, there are a few homonyms that have VERYYY different meanings so if you get something that is not quite right, you can check the pinyin and see which character you were meant to use. Also accurate translations and good vocab!- My qualifications for the recc is that I passed HSK1 and HSK2 with really high scores with the help of this. I wish you the absolute best. Mandarin is so fun to learn

Make sure to focus on curse words, I can cuss like a sailor in Cantonese as I learned it in a kitchen but almost nothing in Mandarin. It's extremely important that you return with this valuable vocabulary and share it with me !!!

so excited for you 🫶 I'm learning cantonese myself to be able to communicate with my boyfriends family back in hong kong, and I swear by using Preply! there's loads of tutors there and they all charge different prices so you can pick whatever is in your budget, and you can chat to them about what your goals are and they do the lessons to suit that goal 🙈
