There are seasons of life where everything feels heavier simply because you realize there isn’t really anyone standing behind you to catch you if you fall. You can handle the exact same problem completely differently when you know there’s somebody you can call at the end of the day, somebody who will listen without judging you, somebody whose presence makes you feel like you don’t have to carry everything alone. But when that person isn’t there anymore—or maybe they were never there in the first place—every problem suddenly feels like it weighs twice as much. You become your own pep talk, your own reassurance, your own emergency contact emotionally. 😭 You have a terrible day and still have to figure out dinner. You get disappointing news and there isn’t necessarily somebody waiting to hear about it. You have moments where you want nothing more than to hear someone say, I’ve got you. You don’t have to figure everything out tonight. And somehow you still wake up the next morning and keep going. I think that’s the part people don’t always see about someone who appears extremely independent. Sometimes independence wasn’t originally a personality trait; it was something life required them to learn. They became capable because there wasn’t always another option. But being able to carry everything alone doesn’t mean you should convince yourself that you never need anyone. Humans need connection. There is strength in reaching out, building friendships, letting trustworthy people know when things aren’t okay, and allowing yourself to receive support when it’s available. And if you’re currently in a season where that support genuinely feels absent, don’t underestimate what you’re already doing just by continuing forward. You don’t need to have the next five years figured out tonight. Sometimes getting through the day is enough. Sometimes the victory is handling the one thing directly in front of you and trusting that life won’t always look exactly like it does right now. People enter your life. Circumstances change. Communities form. The version of you who currently feels like they’re carrying everything alone may eventually look around and realize they’re surrounded by people they hadn’t even met yet when they were begging life to go a little easier on them.
