They become lethal when you see them for who they're. They smear campaign, character assassinate, twist narratives, isolate you, distort your reality.
I resonate with this so bad.

Happy you mentionned the role they assign to you because when you want no parts in it the mask slips and often times it’s insecurity that shows itself

I met a girl with all these hobbies, behaviours, preferences.. childlike.. over time i saw they were pieces of other people she picked up along the way. The scary part is the people around them who know, but protect them from changing bc they are using these people(i.e. offering craved compliments for fakeness in exchange for sex)

I once had a friend like that, people who are closest to him who genuinely wants the best for him. He would treat us like shit and he would feel good about it. And then treat strangers and coworkers great. it was so disappointing to see

This was my last relationship. I refused to be an enabler bc I saw who he was when he wasn’t performing. Great to the public but behind closed doors? Oof. I’d be vocal about how I felt but when it contradicted how he saw himself, I was the enemy lol crazy

I remember this person....he was me once upon a time.
Tried to change into any version people can/will accept him for rather than be true with himself & surrounded by things that align with his [own] values.
And everything change when I did that. My self-awarness about me & my environment was abysmal. I was walking blind thinkin I was the good one & the victim...bro what was i doin😭

This hits home, I was with someone who thought that their community was literal pieces that they could swap out if they no longer fit. She said that verbatim.

Ugh. Yes. And it’s hard to tell who they really are until you’re very close to them or even live with them.

I have come to believe most people don't even know themselves. They tend to present themselves from the perspective of how they want to be perceived or validated. So different people will have a different idea about one person because their interactions are different across the board

I always say the only thing you owe me to be in community with me is respect and then we can move from there but if you can’t do basic respect then I’m out- the only people I tolerate playing patty cake games with are my boomer parents and I don’t play with them much or often but I will for them occasionally but not anyone who wants to be my friend are you crazy?? And my coworkers yes you owe me respect are you crazy?? My boss yes are you crazy? And respect is defined as basic communication and treating me like a human, not an authority. No entitlements to time or energy. Yes we give those to each other, but I’m not owed them, I am owed basic respect and communication though and if you can’t do that then 👋

It’s soo akward when you can tell they are wearing a mask, than they have to do all that lying to control your perception of them 🤣

My ex wants to direct films. Her verbiage was “nobody wants to help me.” As to her struggles getting a team together. It was rarely about what she brought of value. But her value was inherent. It was about people who wanted to show up to help her.

tru..I once had this one homey who really tried to present themselves in different way..and I could tell that they were really hurt when their presentation wasn't acknowledged..but I guess that shouldn't have stopped them..or should it have ?

also, ask them to define their version of deescalating conflict, apologizing, taking accountability, stating a boundary and ask them to define what it means to be truly in connection with another human. what does that look and sound like and ask them for examples
